Wehn Exhibit
Sunday, September 14 through Wednesday, July 1
Wehn Exhibit  (Special Events)
1:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Washington Pioneer Hall Museum
Fred Poyner IV will open a new exhibition ~ James A. Wehn: Master of Portraits in Sculpture.  This new display at Pioneer Hall offers 10 small to medium-sized artifacts and artworks by the Seattle sculptor James A. Wehn (1882-1973).

The focus of the display showcases Wehn’s decades-long career as a talented local portraitist in sculpture (busts; portrait heads; medallions; plaque reliefs), his visits to local Native American communities for research of modeling ideas; and the breadth of his figurative subjects, ranging from the young and old, to women, men, and people of different races. The display features the current bust of Henry Yesler in the Pioneer collection.

This event was made possible by a Heritage award grant from 4Culture.org.

Special Exhibit Opening! Coronation of Womanhood

Special Exhibit Opening! Coronation of Womanhood  (Special Events)

The Pioneer Association is proud to partner with WA250th in celebration of America’s Semiquincentennial.

Beginning June 14th, we will place on display for a limited time, The Coronation of Womanhood, 1883, commissioned by pioneer women’s suffrage leader Abigail Scott Duniway.

Visitors are invited to experience the piece in person and use the accompanying key to identify many familiar names from Washington State history represented within the work.

A special presentation on the piece will be held on August 8th at 2:00 PM, highlighting Pioneer Association members featured in the artwork and exploring its historical significance.

The piece, along with related artifacts and interpretive materials, will remain on display during Open Houses and special events through July, 2027.

anniversary of Washington's statehood  (Association Dates)
We honor our US Veterans.
November 11th is also significant to the Pioneer Association --- it was the day in 1889 that Washington State was admitted to the United States.  Shown here is one of two 42-star US flags that we hold in our Pioneer Hall collection.  These flags were discontinued by July 3, 1890 when Idaho became the 43rd state.  We are proud to keep them!
